The Death of George Floyd

The mission of the Woodward Hines Education Foundation (WHEF) is rooted in the idea that access to and success in higher education is critically important for all people. But, at critical points in the state's history, African American students were denied equal access to educational opportunities and placed in separate and unequal schools and school districts. Today, Mississippi continues to be hampered by the effects of long-term, structural racism. Recent events, including the senseless death of George Floyd, have reaffirmed our commitment to our core value and to our vision. WHEF’s core value is to increase educational equity across our state. Our vision is of a Mississippi where all people regardless of race or socioeconomic status have equal access to an education. This equality will allow enhanced quality of life, a stronger community, and a vibrant, prosperous future for Mississippi.
